The winners of the first edition of the Contest of Ideas and Creativity of Montado de Sobro e Cortiça are already known.
Rita Sá, stylist from Barcelos, won the Fashion category with the project “Glass Roofs”, an extension of her 2018/2019 Autumn / Winter collection. The stylist suggested transforming the traditional disposable bags of polluting material into an object of value, through the use of a natural, renewable and sustainable resource that does not have a negative impact on the environment, cork.
Corutan designer Lia Galvão won the Design and New Cork Products category with the project “O Talego”. Lia Galvão’s idea is to create a Portuguese design brand, Talego Design, which redesigns the regional handicrafts of Alentejo and Ribatejo, giving a more contemporary look to pieces from our ancestors, while still using natural materials.
In the Tourism and Visitation category, the winning project was “À Sombra de Um Chaparro” by the architects Joana Guerreiro, from Odemira, and Clara Vale, from Porto. The proposal consists of the materialization in cork of floating platforms placed at the public’s disposal in rivers and reservoirs, with a chaparro planted in the center symbolizing the ancestral connection with the cork oak.
