The Regional Entity of Tourism of Alentejo (ERT) is preparing the candidacy of the Montado to Intangible Cultural Heritage, in order to value and conserve this rich and unique ecosystem.
It is expected that Montado will join the list of certified brands of Portuguese heritage, which include Fado, Cante Alentejano and Chocalhos. If the application is approved, it will promote the valorization of the Portuguese territory where the landscape of the cork oak forest predominates, contributing to a more competitive region.
The Montado is part of Portugal’s identity. The cork oak was consecrated as the National Tree of Portugal in late 2011, which reveals the economic, social and environmental importance it represents for the country.
