“MONTADO DE SOBRO E CORTIÇA” IN THE III IBERIAN CONGRESS OF DEHESA AND CORK OAK FOREST

On 20 and 21 of November, Badajoz hosted the III Iberian Congress of the Dehesa and the Cork Oak Forest, with the EEC PROVERE “Montado de Sobro e Cortiça” represented.

The main objective of the event was to reflect on the current situation of the portuguese cork oak forest, responding to issues that negatively influence its conservation, but also to emphasize its important economic and environmental value. Managers, owners, companies, associations, researchers and entities linked to this ecosystem attended this congress that was structured in five thematic blocks. The professionals addressed the environmental sustainability of the defense, presented the positive effects that this ecosystem has on the environment and focused on its economic viability, indispensable for its survival.

In addition to these themes, the Congress was also focused on the creation of new products, the application of new technologies, the importance of a cultural point of view and the need to establish a single standard reflecting the peculiarities of an ecosystem that deserves differentiated treatment part of the Community Agrarian Policy.
