On this Day of the Autochthonous Forest, the Cork Oak and Cork Observatory today presents the exhibition “Cork and Sustainable Development Goals”. Cork oak forests, called Montado, are ambassadors for sustainability and a driving force for sustainable development.

They play a decisive role in the ecological balance of the planet, combating climate change and desertification and protecting biodiversity. The montado is a system that depends on the balance between ecological networks and production systems, associated with aspects of social, economic and environmental sustainability. In this perspective, the project “SHOUTOUT4SDGS: European cooperation for social responsibility” established partnerships to analyze the cork oak forest as an example of sustainability, through the analysis of its links to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN), this exhibition being a reflection of that same analysis.
