EEC Provere Montado de Sobro e Cortiça accompanied the presentation of the future Forest Tour tourism product, developed at Monte do Areeiro, as a decisive contribution to the enhancement of the montado and the consolidation of a development model that reinforces the identity and sustainability of the territory.
The pilot visit, aimed at tour guides, highlighted the potential of the experience to raise awareness among visitors, deepen knowledge about the montado ecosystems, and strengthen the link between nature, forest production, cultural heritage, and traditional activities.
The Forest Tour incorporates distinctive elements such as the Lusitano horse, the Mertolenga–Aberdeen Angus crossbred cattle, the cork cycle, cork harvesting, crafts, and local products, aligning with the objectives of EEC Provere: to structure authentic experiences, enhance endogenous resources, and promote sustainable economic development in montado regions.
The initiative demonstrates the importance of creating tourist offerings that promote the region and contribute to a more informed perception of sustainable forest management, the preservation of the montado, and the continuity of rural practices that sustain the natural and cultural heritage of Ribatejo and Alentejo.
For EEC Provere Montado de Sobro e Cortiça, projects such as Forest Tour represent essential steps towards improving tourism offerings, strengthening the competitiveness of the territory, and increasing the visibility of the montado as a tourist destination.
