On November 25, PROVERE — Montado de Sobro e Cortiça (Cork Oak and Cork Association) marked Native Forest Day with an activity dedicated to raising environmental awareness among the school community. Children from the Santana do Mato School visited the Cork Oak and Cork Observatory, deepening their contact with the Montado ecosystem.
The activity also included the planting of more than 40 cork oaks in the surroundings of the Monte da Barca industrial zone, one for each participating child.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, the Intermunicipal Community of Lezíria do Tejo, and the Association of Forest Producers.
The Municipality of Coruche, as the project leader, provided the necessary institutional framework for the activity.
By involving younger generations in the protection of native species and in understanding the environmental and economic value of the Montado, this action reinforces the collective commitment to preserving this unique heritage. These are gestures that, although simple, sow awareness, responsibility, and a future for the territory.
