Tree of the Year Portugal 2026 – Cedar Tree of the Church of Runa, Torres Vedras

The Portugal Tree of the Year 2026 contest has a winner!

The title was awarded to the Cedar Tree of the Church of Runa, in Torres Vedras—a tree over 75 years old that has become a symbol of its community. Planted in the 1950s, this cedar has accompanied generations, stories, departures, and returns, establishing itself as a meeting point and living memory of the village.

Among 51 entries from across the country and with over 18,000 votes, it was the most voted tree, standing out not for its beauty, but for its strong connection to the local community.

Now, as the national winner, it will represent Portugal in the European competition, competing for the title of European Tree of the Year with trees from 15 other countries.

This competition, organized by UNAC, values trees as natural and cultural heritage, reinforcing the importance of the connection between nature and people.

Because every tree tells a story.
