For the period 2030, the Municipality of Coruche and the PROVERE Partnership reinforce the thematic focus of the Strategy – Cork Oak and Cork, a unique and distinctive endogenous resource and the unparalleled and remarkable natural and humanized heritage of this territory, using research, innovation, and training to create jobs, business opportunities, and value, entrepreneurship, and internationalization, integrating responses to the challenges associated with the digital and green transition, strengthening the “Cork Oak Forest” brand, and positioning itself as a destination of excellence to live, visit, and work in.
This PROVERE is based on the following Vision: “Montado de Sobro e Cortiça | A Collective Territory to be Enhanced”
To implement this vision, four strategic axes (SA) have been defined, to which strategic objectives (SO) are associated:
EE1. Boosting the partnership, animation, and promotion of the territory and endogenous resources
OE1.1. Strengthen networking, mobilizing partners and strategic entities for the economic enhancement of the endogenous resource that is the focus of this PROVERE, namely through the operationalization of the proposed governance model, which includes regular work sessions and information sharing between partners and, where appropriate, with the general public.
OE1.2. Revitalize the territory through the implementation of networked animation activities, carried out in the context of the Coordination and Management Structure and by partner entities, which can constitute an integrated animation program, i.e., a regular calendar of decentralized events linked to the thematic focus of PROVERE and taking place in the Montado de Sobro territory within the PROVERE coverage area.
OE1.3. Promote the Montado de Sobro territory and the various activities present there, particularly those that use it as a differentiating asset in their offerings, with a view to increasing national and international recognition of our resource, publicizing unique offerings (also likely to be organized by target audiences) and bringing more people and investment to the territory.
EE2. Promotion of knowledge and research on the Endogenous Resource and its ecosystemic role
OE2.1. Increase research and scientific knowledge on the Montado de Sobro ecosystem, particularly on its role in climate mitigation, with a view to parameterizing and valuing the ecosystem services it provides.
OE2.2. Improve the management of the Montado de Sobro forest, contributing to its preservation and, if possible, increasing its existing area, which has been decreasing due to pressure from new crops with negative impacts on ecosystem sustainability and biodiversity.
OE2.3. Promote digitization as a strategic agenda for the pursuit of the above objectives, through experimental and pilot projects that can respond to current challenges (labor, process optimization, efficient forest management, etc.).
EE3. Preservation and enhancement of the territory and endogenous resources
OE3.1. Increase the community’s general knowledge (awareness, education) about the Montado de Sobro forest as a unique regional and national asset, fostering a sense of belonging to a unique common heritage that urgently needs to be preserved and enhanced.
OE3.2. Preserve the territory of the Cork Oak Forest and create conditions for its sustainable enjoyment, namely by improving resources and support infrastructure, reinforcing the symbiosis between the tourism sector and the natural and distinctive dimension of this endogenous resource.
OE3.3. Enhance the identity and traditions associated with the Montado de Sobro, namely cultural expressions, professions, crafts, and other assets that portray our history and are raw material for integrated approaches to economic and social development.
EE4. Qualify and empower the economic fabric and promote entrepreneurial discovery processes focused on endogenous resources
OE4.1. Qualify and train forest producers and economic agents who integrate the Montado forest and its products into their activity/offer.
OE4.2. Invest in entrepreneurial discovery processes that generate qualified business initiatives based on our endogenous resources, their products, and their territory.
OE4.3. Increase and strengthen collaborative processes of qualification and internationalization, anchored in knowledge sharing and training for internationalization (of products linked to the cork oak forest and this unique territory as a tourist and investment destination).
